(RightIsRight.co) – In a move that took place yesterday while many Americans were in church or participating in other Sunday activities, ten Republican United States Senators, led by John Cornyn of Texas, agreed with the Democrats to pass gun control legislation that Joe Biden has already announced he will sign into law.
The ten Republican Senators are John Cornyn (R-TX), Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Roy Blunt (R-MO), Richard Burr (R-NC), Susan Collins (R-ME), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Rob Portman (R-OH), Mitt Romney (R-UT), and Pat Toomey (R-PA).
According to the publication Politico:
“The emerging package is anchored around extra scrutiny for gun buyers under the age of 21, grants to states to implement so-called red flag laws and new spending on mental health treatment and school security. While translating the agreement into legislation will take time, the large group of supportive senators shows that the package could gain 60 votes on the Senate floor before heading to the House…
“Sens. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) are the lead negotiators on the proposal. The most significant piece of the proposal would subject gun buyers 21 and younger to scrutiny of their criminal and mental health records as juveniles.” [emphasis added]
Once announced, the agreement was met with huge backlash on social media from gun rights advocates and many rank-and-file Republicans.
