In that case, further laboratory work matched patient samples to bacteria in towers at Harlem Hospital and a new public health lab, confirming the sources. All 12 positive towers in that cluster were disinfected, and new cases stopped within weeks.

Public health researchers note that this pattern repeats: a cluster appears, officials race to sample many towers, then only later do genetic tests confirm which one started the outbreak. That delay is frustrating for residents who want simple, instant answers.
