(RightIsRight.co) – Brittney Griner, the WNBA star who is presently in custody in Russia on drug charges, has begged the US government for help even though she has previously bashed the US national anthem and the country as a whole in woke outbursts.
Griner was arrested at an airport in the Russian capital Moscow on February 17, after she played in Russia over the WNBA offseason, and was about to board a flight to the US.
The Russian authorities alleged that her baggage contained marijuana. She faces up to 10 years in prison, having pleaded guilty to drug smuggling charges.
According to US officials and Griner’s fans, the WNBA star has been wrongly accused, and the Russians are using her as a hostage for political blackmail of America against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and the worst US-Russia relations in decades.
“(As) I sit here in a Russian prison, alone with my thoughts and without the protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey, or any accomplishments, I’m terrified I might be here forever,” Griner wrote in her handwritten letter to Joe Biden, in which she begs America for help.
“I realize you are dealing with so much, but please don’t forget about me and the other American Detainees. Please do all you can to bring us home. I voted for the first time in 2020 and I voted for you. I believe in you. I still have so much good to do with my freedom that you can help restore. I miss my wife! I miss my family! I miss my teammates!” the WNBA player wrote.
Biden’s press secretary, Karin Jean-Pierre, has told reporters that the president has received and read the letter.
“The US government continues to work aggressively – using every available means – to bring her home,” Adrienne Watson, the spokeswoman of the National Security Council, told CNN.
As Brittney Griner is pleading with the US to rescue her from Russian imprisonment, her old public actions of woke protests have surfaced in which she repeatedly disrespected America and the US national anthem to protest “racism.”
“I honestly feel we should not play the national anthem during our season. I think we should take that much of a stand,” Griner said in July 2020, two years ago, as cited by The Arizona Republic.
“I’m not going to be out there for the national anthem… I personally don’t think it belongs in sports. … Black people didn’t have rights at that point. It’s hard disrespecting a song that didn’t even represent all Americans when it was first made… It’s not played at Walmart. It’s not played when you go to Six Flags. Why is it played before sporting events?” Griner said back then.
