(RightIsRight.co) – It seems that the United States Secret Service messed up once again as it accidentally honored all 2,996 people listed as victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks in a social media post that was later deleted.
This number mistakenly included the 19 hijackers who carried out the attacks.
In a post on X, the Secret Service wrote:
“The flag hanging in our headquarters is a solemn reminder of 9/11 and our mission’s purpose. A testament to freedom and sacrifice, it honors all 2,996 lives lost, including our own Master Special Officer Craig T. Miller & Special Agent in Charge Charles L. Friend.” The post was removed shortly.
The number 2,996 incorrectly included the 19 al-Qaeda terrorists who hijacked the planes. Later, the Secret Service corrected the figure to 2,977 in a new post.
“This is a correction of an earlier version of this post. In the original post, we erroneously included the total number of deceased from the Sept 11 attacks, which included the hijackers. Our intent was to only honor the victims of that tragic day and we deeply apologize for the error,” the agency stated.
The original post featured a video honoring Master Special Officer (MSO) Craig T. Miller and Special Agent in Charge Charles L. Friend, both of whom died in the attacks.
Moreover, MSO Miller was on a temporary assignment in New York City, preparing for the United Nations General Assembly at the Secret Service Field Office in Tower 7 of the World Trade Center.
According to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, his exact location during the attacks was not specified.
On September 11, 2001, 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial planes. They crashed two of the planes into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center.
A third plane into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the fourth, United Flight 93, was headed for Washington D.C. but crashed outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers attempted to retake control.
In addition, this mistake is the latest in a series of issues for the Secret Service, as in late July, the agency’s director, Kimberly Cheatle, resigned ten days after a man shot GOP nominee Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
