Bernie Sanders Defends Donald Trump?!?

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT)

(RightIsRight.co) – Far left U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders spoke out in favor of restoring former President Donald Trump’s Facebook profile even as he called the former president a “pathological liar.”

Sanders, who bills himself as a Socialist and an independent U.S. Senator who caucuses with the Democrats, commented on Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta’s decision to restore Trump’s accounts.

Facebook suspended Trump’s accounts while he was still president because of his alleged role in the January 6, 2021, events at the U.S. Capitol. At first, the platform banned Trump indefinitely but changed that to a two-year suspension after criticism from its advisory panel.

The restoration of Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts finally took place yesterday.

Trump will hold his first 2024 presidential campaign event in South Carolina’s state capital Columbia on Saturday, January 28, 2023.

Speaking on the CNN program “AC360,” U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont declared the former Republican president has the right to be on social media platforms and express himself there.

“Just briefly, do you think it’s the right choice for Facebook and Instagram to have President Trump back?” CNN host Anderson Cooper asked Sanders.

“You know, it’s — look, you have a guy who is a pathological liar, but he happens to be the former president of the United States. And he has a right to express his views,” the Vermont Socialist commented.

Earlier this week, Meta said it would reinstate Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts but with “new guardrails in place to deter repeat offenses.”

“We will be reinstating Mr. Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts in the coming weeks,” said Nick Clegg, Meta’s global affairs president and former leader of the Liberal Democratic Party in the U.K.

Clegg warned that Trump would be suspended again for two years if he violated any of the platforms’ policies.

Earlier this month, NBC News and CNN cited Meta sources claiming that the 2024 Trump campaign had sent the company a letter asking for reinstating his Facebook and Instagram accounts.

According to The Daily Mail, it remains unclear whether Trump would even resume using them. His Twitter profile, which had a similar fate after 1/6, was restored in November by the platform’s new owner, Elon Musk. Still, the former president has not returned to it and keeps posting on his own social media platform, Truth Social.

Trump reacted to Meta’s announcement by saying that Facebook had incurred losses worth “billions of dollars” due to his deplatforming.

“Such a thing should never again happen to a sitting President, or anybody else who is not deserving of retribution!” the 45th president of the United States wrote on Truth Social.
