(RightIsRight.co) – In what many Republicans believe is a dangerous gambit, the Biden administration threatened that China would suffer unspecified “consequences” if it began to provide Putin’s Russia with military aid for the latter’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
The warning came ahead of the first anniversary since Russia invaded its neighbor on February 24, 2022, as Moscow leader Vladimir Putin seemingly sought to begin resurrecting the former Soviet empire.
Last weekend, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told CBS News the US government had information that Communist China might be mulling giving Russia direct military aid.
The government of the People’s Republic of China has denied having any plans to start giving Moscow weapons and ammunition.
“We have made very clear to China that providing lethal weapons to Russia for use in Ukraine or systematically aiding sanctions evasion would cause real consequences in our relationship with China,” the US State Department spokesperson told The Daily Caller.
“We’re not going to lay out what the consequences would be,” the spokesperson added.
“China understands what’s at risk were it to proceed with providing material support of that kind to Russia. And it would cause a real problem for China in its relationships with many other countries, not just the United States,” the US State Department official said.
At the end of last week, a CNN report quoted US officials saying there were “disturbing” trends concerning China’s “involvement in Russia’s war effort.”
Similar worries have also been expressed by US Vice President Kamala Harris and Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US Ambassador to the United Nations, who have also threatened China with consequences.
“We also have to be clear that if there are any thoughts and efforts by the Chinese and others to provide lethal support to the Russians in their brutal attack against Ukraine, that that is unacceptable,” Thomas-Greenfield told CNN.
“That would be a red line,” she added.
“Looking ahead, any steps by China to provide lethal support to Russia would only reward aggression, continue the killing, and further undermine a rules-based order,” Harris stated in a speech last week during the Munich Security Conference in Germany.
Meanwhile, China’s Foreign Qin Gang said his country was worried the war in Ukraine was “intensifying and even getting out of control” and that Beijing would work for a peaceful settlement.
The US government believes that Communist China has been increasing its economic and technical assistance to Russia and may even start supplying Putin with weapons.
“To date, we have seen Chinese companies – and, of course, in China there is really no distinction between private companies and the state – we have seen them provide non-lethal support to … Russia for use in Ukraine,” Blinken told CBS News.
China could also begin to supply non-lethal support such as flack jackets and helmets to Russia, according to US and European sources, cited by CNN.
Just before Putin’s Russia invaded Ukraine last year, China declared an unlimited partnership with Moscow.
