According to reporting by Reuters, President Joe Biden is frustrated by Vice President Kamala Harris for not “rising to the occasion” as he expects of his second in command.
Reuters quoted several of Biden’s officials who shared the President’s candid views in the bombshell story.
One of Biden’s Former officials explained that Biden wouldn’t have chosen Harris as his running mate if “he did not think she was capable.”
However, another former White House official described a “point of tension” Biden had regarding Harris.
The official explained that the President felt Harris Harris wasn’t “somebody who takes anything off of his plate,” adding Harris may be “afraid of messing up,” which could explain her delay in joining critical political fights like the border crisis.
Harris was given charge of the border crisis in 2021 but hasn’t made an indent in the crisis even as it worsened over two years. She only recently visited the border after receiving tremendous backlash.
However, a current administration official has come to Harris’s defense, saying that the Vice President is “smart” and likely didn’t see the border crisis “as a win for her,” adding that “it’s not. It’s a really hard issue.”
Still, Harris has been receiving backlash.
In January, the National Border Patrol Council grilled Harris for her failure to protect the Southern border.
The council, referencing that Harris was given the border responsibility in 2021, noted that the VP should be “fired and replaced” since she had the “goal of reducing illegal immigration” for two years but had done “nothing while illegal immigration explodes to levels never seen before.”
