(RightIsRight.co) – President Joe Biden admitted this week that he wasn’t aware of the baby formula shortage until April.
Biden told reporters that he wasn’t briefed on the shortage for about two months, despite company executives for Abbott Nutrition acknowledging that they knew about the “general impact” the shutdown of their Michigan plant would have on U.S. infant formula supplies.
Biden said that while executives knew of the impact immediately, he didn’t.
“Here’s the deal,” Biden stated, explaining, “I became aware of this problem some time in — after April — in early April, about how intense it was.”
Biden stated that once he became aware of the shortage, “we did everything in our power” to combat the shortage.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre asserted the administration attempted to address the closure of the Michigan plant in a matter of days but couldn’t explain the delayed communication with the President, only stating that Biden is “frustrated” by the shortage.
She added that the administration has been working on solving the shortage “for months.”
Jean-Pierre also indicated that Biden was satisfied by how the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) managed the response, despite Robert Califf, the FDA Commissioner telling lawmakers the agency’s response was “too slow,” adding that there were “sub-optimal” decisions made.
