On Friday lawyers for Hunter Biden filed an ethics complaint targeting Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.). In the complaint, they are asking an ethics watchdog to look into Greene’s conduct following her decision to publicly show sexually explicit photos of Hunter Biden during this week’s congressional hearing.
Abbe David Lowell, Biden’s attorney sent the letter to the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) pointing out that Greene’s decision to display that material was in violation of both the standards of official conduct and the House Ethics Rule. As he pointed out this decision had lowered not only Greene but also the entire House of Representatives.
He also pointed out the OCE is responsible for reviewing Greene’s actions and condemning and disciplining her over this latest incident. He added that the House needed to make it clear that they did not endorse the actions taken and that her actions are not a reflection of the House’s credibility.
Greene had shown the pictures of Biden during Wednesday’s House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing. The hearing included the testimony of two IRS whistleblowers who have claimed that the investigation into Hunter Biden was slow-walked. Republicans have been following many of their investigations on the politicization of federal law enforcement agencies.
The OCE is an independent and non-partisan entity created by the House to look into all cases of misconduct related to lawmakers, House staffers, and officers. After their review, they can determine whether an allegation and case should be referred to the Ethics Committee or not.
