Justice Breyer Says Supreme Court Is for
United States Supreme Court

(RightIsRight.co) – In one of the more bizarre and tragic events to take place on Earth Day 2022, a man from Colorado set himself on fire outside of the United States Supreme Court in Washington, DC, and has died.

The Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department reported that Wynn Bruce, 50, of Boulder, Colorado, committed the act at 6:05 p.m. on Friday. The Metropolitan Police Department, Supreme Court Police, and United States Capitol Police were called to the scene. After being flown by helicopter to a local hospital, Bruce succumbed to his injuries.

Evidently, Bruce had been planning to take his life for several years as, according to the New York Post, “In 2020, Bruce left a cryptic Facebook comment that included a fire emoji and the date of his death, 4/22/2022.”

The Post also reported that “A Facebook page belonging to a person named Wynn Bruce said he was a Buddhist and a climate activist.”

According to a friend of Bruce, this was not a suicide but “a deeply fearless act of compassion to bring attention to climate crisis.”

Dr. Kritee K., a Zen Buddhist priest and senior scientist at the Environmental Defense Fund tweeted that Bruce was her friend and planned to kill himself in the manner he did for some time.

Specifically, the priest tweeted: “This guy was my friend. He meditated with our sangha. This act is not suicide. This is a deeply fearless act of compassion to bring attention to climate crisis. We are piecing together info, but he had been planning it for at least one year.”
