(RightIsRight.co) – In a bombshell development, the United States Postal Service has agreed to partner with Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to tackle its “broken business model,” which has drained taxpayers of money for decades.
As part of this landmark agreement, USPS will cut 10,000 workers and slash billions in costs, signaling the Trump administration’s commitment to fixing government waste.
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, a Trump appointee, outlined the agency’s massive financial challenges in a letter to Congress.
The Postal Service has experienced nearly $100 billion in losses and was projected to lose another $200 billion without major intervention.
DeJoy explained:
“Fixing a broken organization that had experienced close to $100 billion in losses and was projected to lose another $200 billion, without a bankruptcy proceeding, is a daunting task. Fixing a heavily legislated and overly regulated organization as massive, important, cherished, misunderstood and debated as the United States Postal Service, with such a broken business model, is even more difficult.”
The agreement aims to reduce the USPS workforce through voluntary early retirement programs while cutting operating costs by over $3.5 billion annually.
Yet, this is not the agency’s first round of belt-tightening. In 2021, it eliminated 30,000 positions as part of DeJoy’s ongoing efficiency efforts.
Since returning to office, Trump, working closely with Musk, has been systematically reducing bloated federal bureaucracy.
Privatizing the Post Office or integrating it into the Department of Commerce has been under consideration, ideas that have Democrats and union bosses in a panic.
The reaction from the left has been predictable. Democrat Congressman Gerald Connolly asserted the partnership would “undermine” the Postal Service, warning of “catastrophic consequences” – despite the agency’s disastrous financial record under previous administrations.
Union leadership is equally alarmed by the accountability measures. National Association of Letter Carriers President Brian Renfroe opposed the reforms, claiming they threaten postal jobs while offering no solutions to the agency’s financial hemorrhaging.
In addition, DeJoy highlighted deeper structural problems plaguing the USPS, including miscalculations in retirement plans, mismanagement of the Workers’ Compensation Program, unfunded mandates, and excessive regulatory restrictions that have handcuffed the agency from operating efficiently.
In his letter to Congress, the Postmaster urged lawmakers to engage with USPS and DOGE representatives to address these longstanding challenges, stating:
“Last night I signed an agreement with the General Services Administration and DOGE representatives to assist us in identifying and achieving further efficiencies. This is an effort aligned with our efforts, as while we have accomplished a great deal, there is much more to be done. We are happy to have others assist us in our worthwhile cause.”
DeJoy also announced his intention to step down as Postmaster General and seek a successor to continue the efficiency measures that have already begun to stabilize the troubled agency.
Ultimately, the partnership with Musk’s DOGE represents a common-sense approach to government that prioritizes taxpayers over bureaucracy and addresses decades of fiscal irresponsibility.
