Boy Uses Rifle To Save Father’s Life

(RightIsRight.co) – Thanks to his bravery, a 12-year-old boy in Wisconsin avoided a tragedy as he saved his dad from a black bear attack by shooting the animal with his hunting rifle.

According to a source, the incident happened on September 6 near the family’s hunting cabin in western Wisconsin. 43-year-old Ryan Beierman and his son Owen were tracking a bear when things took a turn.

Beierman stated that when they finally caught up to the 200-pound bear, it charged at him from about six feet away. He fired eight shots with his pistol but missed.

The bear knocked him to the ground and started going for his head.

“Before I knew it, I was flat on my back,” Beierman recalled. “I started pistol-whipping him and it felt like I was striking a brick wall. I tried hitting him between the ear and mouth with a blunt edge of the pistol.”

While his dad was struggling to fend off the bear, Owen stood nearby, ready with his rifle.

“I’m punching and kicking and flailing around,” Beierman said. “That’s when I saw a flash from the muzzle of Owen’s rifle.”

In addition, Owen’s shot killed the bear, saving his dad, who managed to escape after what the dad estimated was a 45-second struggle.

During the attack, Beierman said all he could see “were his claws and teeth” and heard a “crunch” when the bear first bit him.

After the torment, a neighbor took Beierman to an ambulance, which transported him to a nearby hospital.

The man, who was bitten on his forehead, arm, and leg, required 23 stitches to reattach skin on his cheek that had been torn off by the bear.

Reflecting on the moment, he said, “Owen was a hero. He shot that bear and killed it on top of me.”

Furthermore, a conservation officer from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources confirmed that the father and son were hunting legally.
