In the late 1970s, she became a leading voice in the fight to protect traditional family values, spearheading the “Save Our Children” campaign.
This initiative sought to repeal a Miami-Dade County ordinance that threatened to normalize behaviors contrary to Biblical teachings.
“I got involved only because they were asking for special privileges that violated the state law of Florida, not to mention God’s law,” Bryant explained.
Her stance made her a hero to religious conservatives who shared her concerns about the erosion of traditional values.
Bryant’s activism extended beyond Florida. She lent her support to similar initiatives in other states, including California’s Briggs Initiative, which sought to protect children from exposure to harmful ideologies in public schools.
Despite facing intense backlash from liberal Hollywood elites and losing her contract with the Florida Citrus Commission in 1980, the late icon remained steadfast in her convictions.
She continued to use her platform to spread her message of faith and family values, focusing on writing inspirational books and founding Anita Bryant Ministries International.
“May Anita’s memory and her faith in eternal life through Christ comfort all who embraced her,” her family said in an obituary.
Bryant’s life inspires those who continue to fight for traditional values in an increasingly secular world.
Despite adversity, her unwavering commitment to her beliefs reminds Americans of the importance of standing firm in their convictions and defending their God-given rights.
