Breaking: Elon Musk Comes To Trump’s Defense

Donald Trump

(RightIsRight.co) – Elon Musk came out swinging today at Twitter in defense of former President Donald Trump for Twitter having permanently thrown Trump off its social media platform, where he had 80 million dedicated followers.

During FT Live’s Future of the Car conference, Musk was interviewed on a range of issues and topics by the Financial Times. Not surprisingly, Musk’s purchase of Twitter was a much sought-after topic of discussion.

When questioned about Twitter’s permanent ban of Trump, Musk didn’t pull his punches, saying:

“Permanent bans should be extremely rare and really reserved for accounts that are bots, or scam, spam accounts…I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.”

“I would reverse the permanent ban,” Musk added. “I don’t own Twitter yet. So this is not like a thing that will definitely happen, because what if I don’t own Twitter?”

According to Fox News, “Trump was removed from Twitter and other large social media platforms after the events at the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. The then-president was accused of inciting his supporters to riot at the Capitol while Congress was in session to officially certify President-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory.”

It’s long been suspected that Musk will reverse Twitter’s ban of Trump if he successfully completes the purchase of the platform.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Jared Birchall, Musk’s right-hand man and the “point man” for Musk’s $44 billion takeover bid of Twitter, told an associate that the idea of banning a sitting president from Twitter was “insane.”

Still, while many of his followers have said they would like to see Trump back on Twitter, Trump has said that he will never return to Twitter.

“I will be on Truth Social within the week,” Trump told CNBC last month. “It’s on schedule. We have a lot of people signed up. I like Elon Musk. I like him a lot. He’s an excellent individual. We did a lot for Twitter when I was in the White House. I was disappointed by the way I was treated by Twitter. I won’t be going back on Twitter.”
