(RightIsRight.co) – HAPPENING NOW: In a significant victory for former President Donald J. Trump, a federal judge has agreed with his demand that a Special Master be appointed to review all of the files, documents, and materials the Federal Bureau of Investigation seized from his home and office at Mar-a-Lago when it executed a search warrant there last month looking for national security documents and other items the U.S. Department of Justice alleges Trump possessed in violation of several federal statutes.
The court further ordered that, for the time being, prosecutors may not use any of the seized items to continue their investigation of Trump.
As National Review reports in “Federal Judge Grants Trump Petition for Special-Master Review of Raid Files”:
“A federal judge on Monday granted former president Donald Trump’s petition for an independent court-selected arbiter to sift through the documents seized from Mar-a-Lago, temporarily blocking the government from probing the contents, except for national-security considerations, until the assessment is complete.
“Intelligence agencies will be permitted to continue their damage assessment of the classified documents recovered from the property with the goal of determining whether there was ‘potential risk to national security that would result from the disclosure of the relevant documents,’ the judge ruled.” [emphasis added]
In part, the court order states:
“The Court hereby authorizes the appointment of a special master to review the seized property for personal items and documents and potentially privileged material subject to claims of attorney-client and/or executive privilege…
“Furthermore, in natural conjunction with that appointment, and consistent with the value and sequence of special master procedures, the Court also temporarily enjoins the Government from reviewing and using the seized materials for investigative purposes pending completion of the special master’s review or further Court order.” [emphasis added]
