Breaking Video: Top GOP Leader Responds To Criticism of Cheney Censure

U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik

(RightIsRight.co) – Happening Now: Just moments ago, during the weekly United States House of Representatives Republican Leadership press conference, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) was asked to address the turmoil within the GOP over the Republican National Committee having censured U.S. Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for serving on the House Select Committee investigating the protest that took place at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

You can watch the video from Newsmax a bit further down this post.

Stefanik has been the chair of the House Republican Conference since 2021 and the third-ranking House Republican. Stefanik replaced Cheney in that position.

Newsmax congressional correspondent Kilmeny Duchardt asked Stefanik:

“I’d like to ask you about the fentanyl crisis, but I have a political question first if you’d be so kind. As you know, the Republican National Committee censured two of your fellow conference members, Representatives Cheney and Kinzinger. A number of Republican congressional leadership, including in the upper chamber, have criticized this action saying it represents a form of shooting inside the tent and the kind of backward-looking politics of grievance that Donald Trump embodies rather than the forward-looking issues-based approach that most party officials agree will be necessary for the GOP to reclaim majorities in November. As a member of leadership yourself, what is your reaction to those censures?”

Congresswoman Stefanik responded:

“My reaction is the RNC has every right to take any action. And the position that I have is that you’re ultimately held accountable to voters in your district – voters who you represent – and we’re going to hear the feedback and the views of voters pretty quickly here this year.”

One longtime political pundit we spoke with following Stefank’s response indicated he thinks Stefanik feels confident that Cheney will not be reelected by voters in Wyoming come November. Kinzinger has already announced that he will not seek reelection.
