(RightIsRight.co) – At a recent congressional hearing, Congress grilled postmaster General Louis DeJoy about the U.S. Postal Service’s (USPS) ability to handle mail-in ballots for the upcoming presidential election.
Despite DeJoy’s assurances, serious concerns remain about the potential for widespread voter fraud and election tampering through mail-in voting.
This hearing took place at the House Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government.
DeJoy acknowledged that the USPS is “a large organization going through a lot of change” and needs to be more “proactive” in addressing concerns.
This admission hardly inspires confidence that the Postal Service can securely handle millions of mail-in ballots without issues.
The National Association of State Election Directors has voiced serious doubts about USPS capabilities to manage the volume of election mail. Their concerns are well-founded, given the potential for ballots to be lost, delayed or tampered with during the mailing process.
“People don’t want an excuse of a change, they want to make sure that their ballots are going to be there in time,” Representative Ashley Hinson astutely pointed out during the hearing.
While DeJoy tried to reassure lawmakers by citing USPS performance during the 2020 election, that contest was marred by numerous irregularities and allegations of fraud related to mail-in voting.
The fact that millions more mail-in ballots are expected this year only increases the risk of election tampering.
Moreover, DeJoy’s claim that close to 100% of mail ballots would be delivered promptly strains credibility. Under normal circumstances, the USPS routinely experiences delays and lost mail.
Representative David Joyce said, “Many of our constituents have expressed concerns about the Postal Service’s ability to deliver election ballots securely and on time,” echoing the fears of millions of patriotic Americans.
Meanwhile, DeJoy’s comparison of USPS election preparedness to early space missions was particularly alarming.
“You know, the first rockets that went to the moon blew up,” he said carelessly.
With significant efforts from 650,000 employees ready to manage 300 million pieces of mail,
DeJoy remained confident in the USPS’s ability to meet the demands of the upcoming election.
He noted that mail-in ballots are only a fraction of the total mail volume, thus manageable within the current infrastructure.
“Are American citizens going to be able to trust mail-in ballots?” Representative Matt Cartwright (D-PA) asked.
“Absolutely. I don’t know why you wouldn’t,” DeJoy assured.
