Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) blasted former President Donald Trump this week referring to him as a “one-man crime wave” following the recent speculations that he might be facing another indictment soon.
On Thursday, during an episode of “Pod Save America,” the 2024 presidential candidate started to his opponent that while most people would usually attempt to commit crimes discretely and might end up being indicted only once this is not the case for Trump.
Trump has already been indicted in two separate cases, one which relates to the hush money payment made on his behalf to adult film star Stormy Daniels, and a second federal case related to his mishandling of classified documents. The first case includes state charges filed in New York for falsifying documents, while the second relates to special counsel Jack Smith’s Department of Justice investigation.
Smith will also potentially be responsible for the third indictment against Trump if he chooses to file against the former President over his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
On Thursday, Smith held a meeting with Trump’s lawyers, while earlier last week he had also sent Trump a “target letter” informing him that he was a target in the investigation.
Christie argued that Trump had earned all of the indictments and that they were “self-inflicted.” He added that while he does believe the prosecutors are working at the discretion of someone else he believes that people should be looking at the underlying conduct in these cases.
