CHURCH MONSTER EXPOSED

After more than 60 years, authorities have finally identified the predator who r**ed and murdered 9-year-old Carol Ann Dougherty in a Pennsylvania church, bringing long-overdue justice to a family that endured decades of uncertainty.

Story Highlights

  • William Schrader was identified as the killer of Carol Ann Dougherty, who was murdered in 1962 at St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church.
  • Schrader fled Pennsylvania after becoming a suspect and lived a life of violence against children until he died in 2002.
  • A breakthrough came when Schrader’s stepson revealed the predator had confessed to the murder twice.
  • Family endured 62 years without answers, with parents dying before learning their daughter’s killer’s identity.

Decades-Long Investigation Finally Yields Justice

Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn announced that William Schrader has been definitively linked to the brutal 1962 murder of Carol Ann Dougherty through a combination of decades-old evidence and recent investigative developments.

The 9-year-old was on her way to the library when she was lured into St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church in Bristol, where Schrader r**ed and strangled her. Schorn believes this may be the only documented r**e and murder of a little girl in a church in United States history.

Pattern of Violence and Failed Investigation

Schrader lived near the church and was initially questioned by police after a witness reported seeing him outside during the time of the murder. He failed a polygraph test and lied about his alibi, but authorities lacked sufficient evidence to arrest him.

Once Schrader realized he was a suspect, he fled Pennsylvania and moved to the South, escaping justice for decades. Prosecutors revealed that Schrader’s life was marked by systematic violence and sexual abuse, particularly targeting young females.

DNA Evidence and Predatory Behavior Exposed

Investigators collected a pubic hair sample from Schrader during the initial investigation, which showed significant similarities to hair found in Carol Ann’s hand when tested in the 1990s. Out of 141 pubic hair samples tested during the investigation, all other individuals were eliminated except Schrader.

District Attorney Schorn described him as an “absolute predator” who sexually abused nearly every female child he lived with or had access to throughout his life until he died in 2002.

Confession Brings Closure to Grieving Family

The breakthrough came last year when investigators interviewed Schrader’s stepson, who revealed that the predator had confessed to the murder on two separate occasions. Schrader allegedly told his stepson he lured Carol Ann inside the church, r**ed her, and “had to kill the girl in Bristol to keep her from talking.”

Carol Ann’s sister, Kay Dougherty, spoke through tears at the news conference, explaining how the murder changed their family forever and how both parents died without knowing who killed their daughter.
