(RightIsRight.co) – The Food Drug Administration issued a critical warning after escalating the recall of Walmart’s broccoli florets to a “Class I” status, which could potentially cause death for consumers in 20 states.
The agency has escalated Walmart’s Marketside Broccoli Florets recall to its highest threat level, indicating a risk of consumer death due to listeria contamination.
This Class I recall, initiated by Braga Fresh Foods, involves 12-ounce bags of ready-to-eat broccoli that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The FDA defines this recall as “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”
This alarming statement underscores the severity of the threat posed to unsuspecting shoppers who trusted these products to be safe for consumption.

The affected broccoli, labeled as “washed and ready-to-eat,” was distributed across 20 states, including conservative strongholds like Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.
Braga Foods stated, in an attempt to reassure consumers, that “all potentially affected products are past their expiration date and no longer for sale. ”
However, this does little to alleviate concerns for those who may have already consumed or stored the product in their freezers.
Texas Health & Human Services discovered the potential contamination through random sampling, not through proactive measures by the FDA or the manufacturer.
While no illnesses have been reported in connection to the recalled broccoli, the FDA warns that listeria can cause severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, newborns, and the elderly.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges in ensuring food safety in America.
It also highlights the need for increased vigilance from consumers and regulatory bodies to protect families from potentially deadly contaminants in the food supply.
Consumers who have purchased the affected product are urged to immediately check their freezers and dispose of any remaining broccoli.
The UPC code for the recalled product is “6 81131 32884 5” with the lot code “BFFG327A6.”
As American families continue to face threats from contaminated food products, it becomes increasingly clear that the current regulatory system may be inadequate to protect consumers.
This latest recall calls for stronger oversight and more stringent safety measures in the food supply chain.
