Cotton: ‘They Deserve Our Mockery’

( – Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) recently blasted the pro-Hamas demonstrators on U.S. college campuses and argued that their actions deserve “our contempt” and “our mockery.”

In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week” with Jonathan Karl, Cotton discussed these campus events and criticized Joe Biden for his delayed and inadequate response to the protests.

Cotton highlighted that the demonstrators had been spreading anti-Semitic rhetoric for weeks but faced no immediate action from campus administrations or political leaders.

“He didn’t specifically speak to what they’re saying and what they’re doing. They’re chanting final solution. They’re telling Jews to go back to where they came from. They’re spray-painting buildings with vile, antisemitic hate,” Cotton said.

He also slammed Biden’s soft words regarding the protests’ messaging while leaving the topic of encampments out.

“He said, well, we shouldn’t have antisemitism or hate speech in the abstract or Islamophobia,” he said. “Where are the encampments, Jon, on campuses spreading Islamophobia?

When Karl commented that Cotton was seemingly downplaying the situation in Gaza, the senator replied that instead of supporting Israel’s eradication of Hamas, Biden has told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to tone his stance down.

He added that “these students on campuses, they deserved our contempt. They also deserved our mockery. I mean, they’re out there in their N95 masks in open air, with their — with their gluten allergies, demanding that Uber Eats gets delivered to them.”

He further criticized liberal administrators and politicians for not stepping in sooner to remove the encampments and suggested that police should have been deployed to dismantle them immediately.

Moreover, Cotton addressed the presence of foreign students involved in the protests, questioning why the Biden administration has not taken steps to revoke visas and deport those who are in the U.S. on student visas.

He emphasized that domestic students have the right to protest but continued, “Now, if you’re a foreigner, you can’t.”

And where’s Joe Biden’s administration demanding that universities turn over the names of any foreign students here on a visa, revoking those visas and deporting them? That’s something that Joe Biden can do today,” he concluded.
