(RightIsRight.co) – The November 2020 election gave Democrats control of the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives, something often referred to as the “trifecta.” With this much control, they hoped to swiftly pass their sweeping spending bill to expand government services and programs while addressing climate change initiatives. However, progressive Democrats are now furious after more moderate Senators forced them to gut parental and medical leave from the multi-trillion dollar plan.
On Wednesday, October 27, Democrats sacrificed paid family leave in an attempt to appease the more moderate lawmakers in their party. However, that was still not enough to get the bill over the finish line before President Joe Biden left for the G20 Summit on Thursday. Now, Democrats must wrangle what’s left of the now $1.75-trillion economic and climate package in an attempt to bring a win to both Congress and President Biden.
New York Times author Jessica Grose shared her opinion on the removal of paid family leave:
I have been covering work and family since 2009. Every year at some point, I see a map go viral that shows American parents are basically the only ones in the entire world who do not get any federal paid leave. Parents, mostly mothers, talk about how cruel this policy is.

As of now, it appears universal prekindergarten and expansions to Medicare could still be on the table. However, this would take moderate Senators like Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) signing on to the bill without aggravating far-Left Democrats too much. At this pace, some wonder if the Left will even be able to have this bill on the President’s desk by Thanksgiving.
