(RightIsRight.co) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, along with his fellow Republicans in the Florida legislature, has taken off the gloves and is engaged in a bare-knuckle brawl with mega-entertainment industry giant Disney over wokeness.
On Tuesday, DeSantis announced that the state legislature would take up a bill to terminate Disney’s special tax and governing jurisdiction as part of the Republican’s battle over Disney’s in-your-face woke politics.
“I am announcing today that we are expanding the call of what they are going to be considering this week, and so yes, they will be considering…termination of all special districts that were enacted in Florida prior to 1968, and that includes the Reedy Creek Improvement District,” DeSantis said at a press conference.
The Reedy Creek Improvement District is the district that grants Disney its special tax and governing jurisdiction.
Yesterday, the Florida state Senate followed through and passed the DeSantis bill.
If the bill makes it all the way to DeSantis’s desk for his signature, and it is expected to do so, the termination of this special district that Disney has benefited from for decades would be a major economic blow to Disney’s bottom line.
This is the latest fight launched by DeSantis and Florida Republicans after Disney announced its opposition to the Parental Rights in Education Bill that DeSantis enacted this year. Conservatives also believe that Disney has pushed to include LGBTQIA characters in its storylines.
