GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis in a recent rally in Sioux Center, Iowa, told the audience that he would bring the Florida workers who had helped restore the state following the recent hurricanes, to help President Joe Biden build the wall that his administration had previously stopped working on.
In the rally DeSantis urged Biden to allow them to “get cracking on this wall” adding that people were going to “get it done.”
DeSantis proceeded to praise the efforts of his state’s workers for their efforts in restoring the state’s infrastructure which was damaged by Hurricane Ian last year. As DeSantis stated, Hurricane Ian was a “monster storm” which actually destroyed roads and even bridges that cross the mainland to Pine Island. He added that there were also problems in three different locations “going to Sanibel Island.” As he said these bridges were not the state’s responsibility technically, but the locals had been told that it would take half a year for the connectivity to be restored.
This was something that they relayed to DeSantis who agreed that they could not remain cut off for six months. This was why he used his workers to get the bridges running again swiftly. As he noted with his workers the Pine Island Bridge was “restored in three days” while Sanibel Causeway was restored “two weeks later” allowing the task to be completed 5 and a half months ahead of the expected schedule that the locals had been given by authorities.
