The Israeli-American soldier, kidnapped during Hamas’ brutal attack on October 7, 2023, is finally coming home to his family thanks to Trump’s diplomatic efforts.
Hamas announced the release as a goodwill gesture toward the United States without conditions or exchanges.
Trump shared the breakthrough over the weekend, stating that Alexander’s release marks a critical step toward resolving the ongoing conflict.
Steve Witkoff, Trump’s Middle East envoy, is traveling to Israel to facilitate the release scheduled for Tuesday.
Furthermore, Qatar and Egypt played key roles as mediators in securing Alexander’s freedom. The release is widely viewed as a positive step that may lead to broader ceasefire negotiations.
“I am happy to announce that Edan Alexander, an American citizen who has been held hostage since October 2023, is coming home to his family. I am grateful to all those involved in making this monumental news happen,” Trump posted.
He continued:
“This was a step taken in good faith towards the United States and the efforts of the mediators — Qatar and Egypt — to put an end to this very brutal war and return ALL living hostages and remains to their loved ones. Hopefully this is the first of those final steps necessary to end this brutal conflict. I look very much forward to that day of celebration!”

Adam Boehler, US special envoy for hostage affairs, is accompanying Alexander’s parents to Israel for the reunion with their son.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office confirmed they were informed of the release, which comes without conditions.
At the same time, Alexander’s freedom represents a major achievement for Trump’s administration, prioritizing the protection of American citizens abroad.
The President has maintained firm pressure on Hamas while working through diplomatic channels to secure the hostages’ release.
Alexander was born in Israel but raised in the United States before moving back to Israel in 2022 to enlist in the Israeli military.
His family, who reside in Tenafly, New Jersey, has constantly contacted the US government throughout this ordeal.
Trump’s administration has provided unwavering support to the Alexander family during this challenging time.
In addition, Hamas still holds 59 hostages in Gaza, with only 21 believed to be alive, according to Trump.
Boehler has urged Hamas to release the bodies of four other deceased Americans still being held in Gaza.
These continued hostage situations highlight the ongoing threat posed by radical terrorist organizations to American citizens and America’s allies.
The release is expected to lead to further negotiations based on a proposal by Trump’s envoy.
While Hamas has expressed readiness for intensive negotiations to end the conflict, the Israeli government has made no commitment to a ceasefire or prisoner exchange.
Trump’s strong leadership and strategic diplomacy have proven effective in navigating these complex geopolitical waters.
Trump’s upcoming tour of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE demonstrates his continued commitment to peace in the Middle East.
The President’s ability to secure Alexander’s release without conditions or exchanges showcases the respect Trump commands on the world stage and his unwavering commitment to protecting American citizens around the globe.
