House GOP Wants Border Patrol Chief Ousted

Illegal Climbing Over Border Fence

( – Republican members of the US House of Representatives have penned a letter to President Joe Biden, urging him to fire the chief of US Customs and Border Protection, Chris Magnus, amid an unprecedented surge in the arrivals of illegal aliens.

Biden appointed Magnus to lead the biggest agency of the federal government less than a year ago, in December 2021.

Sixteen GOP House members led by Rep. Joy Hice of Georgia have signed the letter to the president, which called Magnus “unengaged” at the CBP Commissioner job.

They cited a Politico article in which five anonymous US officials accused Magnus of various failures.

“According to a recent report by Politico, Commissioner Magnus continually fails to attend high-level meetings regarding the border crisis. Even worse, he was caught sleeping through some of the meetings he actually attended,” the GOP Congress members wrote in their letter, which The Daily Caller obtained.

“The report goes on to details Commissioner Magnus’ constant complaining about his fellow senior officials in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) instead of focusing on the CBP mission to secure our border,” the Republicans pointed further.

A Newsmax report stressed that Biden picked Magnus, a former police chief in Tucson, Arizona, with 40 years of experience as an officer, to lead CBP “particularly” because of his opposition to the strict border security of President Donald Trump’s administration.

“More than ever, we need a commissioner who understands the complexity of border policy and the inner workings of the CBP agency,” the 16 US Congress Republicans declared further in their letter to the Democrat president.

“Commissioner Magnus has admitted that during his first ten months in office, he spent more time learning the ‘many complex areas of CBP’ rather than leading on the massive issues at the borders,” they added.

In their letter, the GOP lawmakers called upon Biden not to disregard the largest border crisis in US history, reminding him America just registered a record 2.3 million apprehensions of illegal immigrants in the 2022 fiscal year.

The actual number of illegals who have entered the United States since Biden took over the White House 21 months ago is estimated at more than 5 million, including over 1 million gotaways.

The recent Politico report depicted CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus as a person at odds with the culture of the agency as well as its parent, the Department of Homeland Security, and its subdivision, the US Border Patrol.

“Operationally, he’s not even in the conversation. He knows the border, but the ins and outs and the size of capabilities of CBP is pretty far outside his remit and understanding how to deal with other parts of the administration,” said one of Politico’s sources.

In 2014, Magnus, at the time the police chief of Richmond, California, caught national attention by carrying a Black Lives Matter sign during protests.
