(RightIsRight.co) – In a huge victory for American agriculture and environmental protection, the fearsome “murder hornet” has been officially wiped out from U.S. lands.

This invasive species, first spotted in Washington state near the Canadian border in 2019, posed a significant threat to native pollinators and agricultural stability.
The Washington and U.S. Departments of Agriculture officially announced the eradication, marking a major win for American ecosystems and hardworking farmers.
The northern giant hornet, formerly known as the Asian giant hornet, can grow up to a menacing 2 inches long.
These oversized insects pack a powerful punch. Their sting can penetrate most beekeeper suits and deliver nearly seven times the venom of a honeybee. They can destroy an entire honeybee hive in just 90 minutes.
The successful eradication effort was a testament to the power of the American community and cooperation.
Residents played a crucial role by placing traps and reporting sightings, while researchers employed innovative tracking methods to locate and destroy hornet nests.
Moreover, the battle against the murder hornet was not without its challenges. Between 2020 and 2021, four nests were discovered and destroyed in Washington state, the only U.S. state with confirmed reports of the hornet.
The Washington Agriculture Department continued its vigilant trapping efforts, and in 2023, a nest containing nearly 1,500 hornets was successfully eliminated.
While this victory is cause for celebration, it also serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threats to the nation’s biodiversity and agricultural security.
Other invasive species, such as the yellow-legged hornets in Georgia and South Carolina, continue to threaten ecosystems.
Washington Agriculture Director Derek Sandison said, “I’m incredibly proud of our team, which has dedicated years of hard work to safeguarding our state and the nation from this invasive threat to our native pollinators and agriculture.”
Despite this resounding success, officials emphasize the importance of continued vigilance. The murder hornet’s ability to infiltrate the borders once means it could potentially do so again.
