US Customs and Border Protection report that this attack is not an isolated incident. To date, 413 such assaults on border agents have been documented this fiscal year, showcasing the hostile environment they face while defending our borders.
The report read: “[A] U.S. Border Patrol Agent assigned to the Santa Teresa Station responded to a group of undocumented non-citizens that had crossed the border illegally in the Sunland Park, N.M. area near the Monument 2 border marker.”
“While taking the undocumented non-citizens into custody, the agent was physically assaulted and bitten by one of the undocumented non-citizens,” it continued.
“The agent received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local medical facility for evaluation. One subject has been arrested for assault and was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation,” it added.
The unnamed assailant was part of a group of four people attempting to cross over Mount Cristo Rey from Mexico.
The Sunland Park area is notoriously busy for illegal crossings, adding another layer of risk for Border Patrol agents operating there.
Illegals frequently fall from the border wall in this area, resulting in numerous emergency calls to local dispatchers.
Despite these hazards, the dedication and bravery of Border Patrol agents remain unwavering as they continue to safeguard America’s borders.
The frequency of these assaults indicates a pressing need for stricter border control measures.
There is a pressing need for our courageous agents to get better protection and support as they continue their critical work at the border.
