(RightIsRight.co) – After the sudden arrival of 20,000 illegal Haitians drew national attention and sparked residents’ complaints, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine (R) is sending law enforcement and millions of dollars to Springfield.
This week, DeWine announced that state troopers would be deployed to address rising reckless driving issues, a problem worsened by the influx of illegals.
He is also allocating $2.5 million to improve healthcare services, which have been overwhelmed by the massive number of illegals.
“I want the people of Springfield and Clark County to know that as we move forward, we will continue to do everything we can to help the community deal with this surge of migrants,” DeWine said.
He added, “The federal government has not demonstrated that they have any kind of plan to deal with the issue. We will not walk away.”
According to a press release from the governor’s office, the arrival of illegal Haitians has put a strain on local primary care providers due to the increased patient load and the need for more translation services.
“In general, migrants from Haiti have had little to no healthcare services prior to arriving in the United States, including vaccinations,” the release stated.
To tackle the rise in dangerous driving, DeWine has directed the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) to assist the Springfield Police Department with traffic enforcement.
“Beginning [Thursday] morning, OSHP troopers will patrol local roads with the highest crash rates and hold accountable any driver who drives erratically and risks the safety of others,” the release noted.
Additionally, Ohio’s Republican Attorney General Dave Yost has tasked his office with exploring legal options to prevent the federal government from sending “an unlimited number of migrants to Ohio communities.”
In June, the Biden-Harris administration granted temporary legal status to 300,000 illegal Haitians, effective until at least February 2026.
This status allows these people to stay and work in the U.S., including many who now reside in Springfield.
Moreover, city Manager Bryan Heck explained that Springfield’s affordable housing and job opportunities made it an attractive destination for illegals.
Residents have reported seeing “buses” dropping off illegals at gas stations and laundromats around town.
