James Carville Slams Democrats – Is He Right?

(RightIsRight.co) – Long-time Democrat strategist James Carville has urged the Democratic Party to stop listening to “elite coastal people” pushing NPR-style identity politics if it wants to stand a chance to win the upcoming midterm elections.

Carville’s comments came during a live appearance on MSNBC’s “The Beat,” together with Howard Dean, former Governor of Vermont and former chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Dean forecasted that in the November 8 midterms, the Democrats would retain and even increase their majorities in both chambers of the US Congress.

“I’ll make this prediction right now. We’ll pick up two to three in the Senate and pick up the House. We will pick up seats in the House and not lose them,” the former DNC head stated.

However, Carville disputed his forecast and insisted that the Democrats stood a chance of not losing the midterms in less than two weeks only if they shifted their strategy completely from emphasizing identity politics to targeting specific policy intentions of the Republicans.

“I agree with you if we execute an obvious strategy that is right in front of us. But if we keep this kind of NPR foundation strategy of identity left politics, we’re going to lose,” Carville responded to Dean.

“If we pick up the banner and say, they have a plan, and this is their plan. You didn’t believe them when they told you they would overturn Roe. Guess what? They did. You better believe them when they tell you they want to get rid of Social Security and Medicare because they do,” the Democrat strategist elaborated.

Carville, best known for leading Bill Clinton’s successful 1992 presidential campaign, insisted the Democrats could win the midterms only if they “have the discipline and the common sense to drive these issues home.”

When asked by host Ari Melber to define “NPR politics,” a reference to the leftist media coverage style of the National Public Radio, the Democrat strategist said he defined it in a Wall Street Journal article he wrote in the spring of 2021.

He blasted the Democratic Party for refusing to tackle crime while placing an all-out emphasis on identity politics.

“Democrats need to own the crime issue, or the crime issue will own you. ‘Well,’ people said, ‘well, you can’t do that because there will be a big backlash.’ Okay, you didn’t own it, and guess what? It’s a big problem for Democrats. I’m telling the same elite coastal people forget everything,” Carville explained.

“We are going to advertise and push the fact that [the Republicans] want to throw people off Medicare and Social Security, and they want to shut the government down to do it. That’s how you win,” he insisted.

“We should have grabbed the crime issue back in the spring of 2021, but we got to listen to these foundation NPR types, which is always a disaster,” the long-time Democrat strategist concluded.
