JUST NOW: Biden Commutes Sentences – 2,500 Offenders!

(RightIsRight.co) – Raising eyebrows and sparking debates about criminal justice reform, Joe Biden just decided to commute sentences for nearly 2,500 nonviolent drug offenders.

This dangerous overreach of executive power threatens public safety and undermines America’s justice system.

Biden claims this mass commutation is about “correcting sentencing disparities” and giving offenders a second chance.

Yet, it is a thinly veiled attempt to pander to his far-left base and score political points as he prepares to leave office.

By focusing on so-called “racial disparities” in sentencing, Biden is injecting divisive identity politics into our criminal justice system.

The scale of this clemency is unprecedented and alarming. Biden boasted that he has “now issued more individual pardons and commutations than any president in U.S. history.”

However, this is not something to be proud of; it is a dereliction of duty to keep Americans safe. These 2,500 offenders were lawfully convicted and sentenced.

Releasing them early undermines the hard work of law enforcement and prosecutors who put these criminals behind bars.

Biden’s soft-on-crime policies have already led to surging violence in Democrat-run cities across the country.

He declared:

“Today’s clemency action provides relief for individuals who received lengthy sentences based on discredited distinctions between crack and powder cocaine, as well as outdated sentencing enhancements for drug crimes.”

His assertion that these sentences were based on “discredited distinctions” is a slap in the face to the judges and juries who carefully considered each case.

Moreover, this mass commutation is just the latest in Biden’s string of questionable pardons.

He has already commuted sentences for nearly all federal death row prisoners and pardoned his own son Hunter for tax and firearms crimes.

There are reports he is considering preemptive pardons for his political allies before leaving office. This abuse of the pardon power reeks of corruption and cronyism.

Biden’s actions reflect the longstanding practice of presidents issuing pardons toward the end of their terms.

While the commutations address certain disparities, the emotional and complex nature of legal reforms raises questions on whether an issue this significant should be rushed as a president exits power.
