(RightIsRight.co) – It’s undeniable that mainstream media fuels much of public opinion, as it holds the ability to sway thoughts and even votes based on its word choice, rhetoric, and overall coverage of the news. But, when the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) came under fire by the media for being partisan, many justices, including Justice Clarence Thomas, defended the high court.

On Thursday, September 16, Justice Thomas spoke at the University of Notre Dame about the judiciary branch, race, and equality. He stressed how the media “… makes it sound as though you are just always going right to your personal preference”

Just last week, Justice Barrett defended her colleagues by saying “sometimes I don’t like the results of my decisions. But it’s not my job to decide cases based on the outcome I want,”

CNN’s Politics division shared more:

Thomas highlighted that there’s a large difference between judicial philosophies and political parties, something that both Justices Stephen Breyer and Amy Coney Barrett have emphasized in recent weeks as well. These life-long appointees are trying to reassure the nation they take their job seriously, not as “junior league” politicians, but as impartial interpreters of the Constitution and the nation’s laws.

Moving into its next term, SCOTUS will hear cases challenging abortion, second amendment rights, and even affirmative action, likely ramping up media attacks calling the court partisan. However, as Justice Thomas reminds Americans, it’s crucial to remember that the judicial branch simply interprets the laws written by Congress and signed into law by the President. It is this system of checks and balances that keep our nation and its parties working together for our greater good.
