(RightIsRight.co) – After avoiding press conferences since announcing her presidential campaign, Kamala Harris is finally preparing for her first interview.
CNN announced this week that Dana Bash would be the first to interview Harris, but she would be accompanied by her running mate Tim Walz.
Harris and her campaign have been under growing pressure because she has not held a press conference or given an interview since starting her presidential bid.
Yet, Harris had previously mentioned she wanted to schedule an interview by the end of the month.
While considering whether to agree to an interview, campaign aides sought advice on who she should speak with, according to Politico. Harris reportedly does not believe she needs to do a “big showy interview” at this stage in the race.
“Kamala To Do Her First Interview With Training Walz,” Daily Caller Editorial Director Vince Coglianese tweeted.
The push for Harris to participate in an interview has been partly driven by the frequent changes in her policy positions.
Early in her campaign, aides issued statements that reversed her 2020 stances on issues like fracking, mandatory federal gun buybacks, and the abolition of private health insurance.
Additionally, Harris has yet to present a clear policy platform. Though she has introduced some economic policies, her campaign website only includes personal bios of her and Walz, not detailed policy positions.
Before Walz was set to appear with Harris for the CNN interview, aides were reportedly concerned about how to present the governor, fearing he might not fully grasp Harris’s positions on every issue.
Conservatives quickly criticized Harris for not handling her first major interview alone.
“Joe Biden can’t get into a car or up a flight of stairs without a handler, and apparently Kamala Harris can’t even talk to a CNN reporter by herself. Embarrassing,” Sean Davis, CEO of The Federalist, tweeted.
Furthermore, the Trump campaign has frequently slammed Harris for avoiding the media, and officials have said part of their strategy is to use Senator J.D. Vance in key swing states to contrast with the vice president.
“BREAKING: On Thursday — 39 days since being installed as the Democrat nominee — Kamala will sit for her first formal interview,” the Trump War Room posted on X. “Joint, since she’s not competent enough to do it on her own. Taped, so her handlers have time to play damage control.”
