(RightIsRight.co) – Showcasing the unbreakable spirit and determination that define America’s greatest athletes, American skiing legend Lindsey Vonn is making a triumphant return to competitive skiing at age 40.
Vonn, a four-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist, announced her plans to rejoin the U.S. Ski Team after a five-year hiatus and focus on the super-G and downhill events.
Her return comes after she initially retired in 2019 due to chronic knee pain from multiple injuries and surgeries.
The 40-year-old champion’s return to the slopes was made possible by a successful knee replacement surgery just seven months ago.
This medical breakthrough has allowed Vonn to ski pain-free for the first time in years, reigniting her passion for the sport and her competitive drive.
“Obviously, I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t hope to be racing. I have aspirations. I love to go fast. How fast can I go? I don’t know,” Vonn said during an interview.
She later emphasized, “But I’m not going to put myself in a position to fail. My goal is to enjoy this, and hopefully that road takes me to World Cup races. I wouldn’t be back on the U.S. Ski Team if I didn’t have intentions.”
Vonn’s impressive career includes 82 World Cup victories, three Olympic medals, and 137 World Cup podiums.
The skiing champion’s comeback has been met with enthusiasm from the skiing community.
U.S. Ski & Snowboard President Sophie Goldschmidt welcomed Vonn’s return, stating, “Lindsey has made an indelible mark on alpine skiing and our organization throughout her career. We’re delighted to welcome her back.”
Moreover, Vonn’s first major competition since her return will be the World Cup circuit this winter. The champion skier has even hinted at the possibility of competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
