Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s government scored a decisive victory for traditional family values with the new law, which passed by an overwhelming 136-27 margin.
The Hungarian parliament’s decision strengthens the nation’s existing “child protection” legislation, which already prohibits exposing minors to LGBTQ+ content in schools and media.
The new amendment specifically targets Pride parades and similar events that could potentially expose children to content Hungarian lawmakers deem harmful to their “proper development.”
Under the law, participants who attend prohibited events could face fines of up to 200,000 Hungarian forints (approximately $546).
