Man Arrested for Trying to Sell US Secrets to China

(RightIsRight.co) – American ingenuity thrives in our free market. But, this makes our medical and technology fields top targets for foreign spies to exploit. This month, a hospital researcher was sentenced to nearly three years in prison after conspiring to steal trade secrets from an Ohio research center.

On Monday, April 19, a court sentenced Zhou Yu to 33 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to stealing research from Columbus, Ohio’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Research Institute. Yu’s wife, Chen Li, aided him in his theft and was sentenced to 30 months in prison in February.

Indo-Pacific News shared more about the criminal couple:

The pair’s scheme was to steal American research on exosomes and sell it in China. They had set up businesses in the communist country and were profiting off of them. They also had been in contact with the Chinese government about the technology. Thankfully, the couple will now pay over $2.6 million in restitution and will give up nearly $1.5 million in stocks.

It’s through the hard work of our National Security agencies that these criminals were caught and brought to justice. Keeping Chinese spies out of our businesses is key to rebuilding our economy and remaining the world’s most prosperous nation.
