(RightIsRight.co) – On Tuesday, actor Matthew McConaughey appeared at the podium in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room at the White House in Washington, DC, to share his views about what needs to happen in the wake of the recent mass shootings at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York and an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
Among several controversial statements, McConaughey, who was born and raised in Uvalde, Texas, said, “Responsible gun owners are fed up with the Second Amendment being abused and hijacked by some deranged individuals.”
As Breitbart News recounts much of what McConaughey seemingly believed was significant in his remarks; including:
- He slammed the media and called on the media to “restrain sensationalized media coverage” of mass shootings.
- “As I said, this moment is different. We are in a window of opportunity right now that we have not been in before. A window in where it seems like real change — real change can happen.”
- “How can the loss of these lives matter? While we honor and acknowledge the victims, we need to recognize that this time, seems like something else is different.”
- “We want secure and safe schools, and we want gun laws that won’t make it so easy for the bad guys to get these damn guns.”
- While calling for more and stricter gun laws, he said, “Responsible gun owners are fed up with the Second Amendment being abused and hijacked by some deranged individuals.”
- He said stricter gun control “should be a non-partisan issue,” saying Americans “are not as divided as we’re being told we are” and that there is a “middle ground” to enact gun restrictions to prevent mass shootings.
- He called on politicians and all Americans to “take a sober, humble and honest look in the mirror and rebrand ourselves on what we truly value.”
