In a head-turning announcement, Mega Millions has stunned Americans with a monumental change: ticket prices are now double what they used to be.

Specifically, Mega Millions tickets, which have historically cost $2, will double to $5 beginning this month.

This marks only the second price increase in the lottery’s history, with the first occurring back in 2017.

Lottery officials are confident this adjustment will entice more players with the promise of larger jackpots and enhanced odds.

Loyal lottery enthusiasts are keen to see whether this gamble pays off.

“The research done prior to this change shows that players are receptive to the higher price points if they know there are both bigger jackpots and bigger prizes available throughout,” explained a lottery spokesperson.

“We also know that $5 is a very popular price point for other lottery games available in most states, so there is appetite for that,” the spokesperson added.

Players have reason to be optimistic as the odds of winning the jackpot are set to improve from 1 in 303 million to 1 in 290 million.

Additionally, even non-jackpot prizes benefit from a randomized multiplier of up to 10X, enhancing winnings significantly.

Drawings remain on Tuesdays and Fridays, spanning across 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

While some might initially balk at the new cost, historical trends indicate Mega Millions continues to draw crowds with its enticing billion-dollar jackpots.

Past players have turned into billionaires, like those from its highest jackpot to date of $1.6 billion in August 2023.

The lottery boasts over 1,200 newly minted millionaires since its launch in 2002.
