NOW: Class II Food Recall Impacting Multiple States

(RightIsRight.co) – The Food Drug Administration’s (FDA) latest recall exposes yet another example of government incompetence and overreach as the agency issued a Class II recall for 1,600 units of Hannaford Seafood Salads, impacting multiple states.

Hannaford Seafood Salads were recalled in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and New York. The products contain undeclared hydrolyzed soy protein, which poses a risk to those with soy allergies.

The FDA has classified this as a Class II recall, claiming it indicates “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences” with only a “remote” chance of serious effects.

However, this downplaying of the risk is typical of an agency that is more concerned with covering its tracks than protecting the public.

The truth is, for individuals with soy allergies, consuming these mislabeled products could lead to severe, life-threatening reactions.

“Consumers with an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the agency stated.

Moreover, the recall was initiated after a labeling error, where incorrect labels were provided for an upcoming formulation change.

Potential symptoms of soy allergies include stomach issues, coughing, itching, wheezing, vomiting, hives, and difficulty breathing.

While the manufacturer, Elevation Foods, claims no illnesses have been reported, this assertion is questionable when the FDA’s oversight is clearly lacking.

Even though the government fumbles with food safety, consumers are advised to check their refrigerators and pantries for these recalled products. If found, return them for a full refund.

This recall is a reminder of the need for stricter oversight and harsher penalties for companies that prioritize profits over people.
