Patrick Mahomes' Rookie Card Sells for Unbelievable Amount

(RightIsRight.co) – American football players are often given multi-million dollar contracts for their finesse and expertise on the field. But, a new sale shows that their rookie cards can make just as much money as the players themselves. A signed 2017 rookie card of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes just fetched over $4 million at a recent private sale.

On Wednesday, July 28, PWCC Marketplace announced it brokered a record-breaking $4.3-million deal on the Mahomes rookie card. The owners of LJ’s Card Shop, who purchased the card, highlighted their excitement, calling the card “truly a piece of art” that they were “honored to add” to their collection.

The Athletic compared the new record for an NFL trading card to the old one:

When asked during the Kansas City Chiefs training camp about the sale, Mahomes acknowledged “that’s a lot of money” and emphasized that “business has been growing” in the trading card world.

Paying millions of dollars for a small slip of paper is an enormous investment. However, between our nation’s passion for football and the joy of holding and owning tangible things, like signed trading cards, it seems like a pretty safe way to try and turn a profit. If this card turns up on the market again, it could easily go for even more than the original $4.3 million.
