(RightIsRight.co) – While condemning the well-documented human rights abuses committed by the Chinese government, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) commanded the athletes of the U.S. Olympic Team currently competing in Beijing, China, to remain silent and to not speak out against the genocide and other atrocities the Chinese government regularly conducts against those it wished to harm.
As Breitbart reports in “Pelosi: U.S. Athletes Risk Angering’ Ruthless’ Chinese Government if They ‘Speak Out’ Against Genocide“:
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) warned U.S. athletes attending the Genocide Games in Beijing that they risk the wrath of the “ruthless” Chinese government if they speak out against human rights abuses.
“Speaking at Congressional-Executive Commission on China hearing, Nancy Pelosi said the United States has an “urgent moral duty to shine a bright light” on China’s human rights abuses.”
But then, after recounting all the reasons she believes it’s important to shine a light on the ongoing human rights violations committed by the Chinese government, Pelosi sent a warning to American athletes competing in the Olympic Games.
“‘I would say to our athletes — you are there to compete,’ Pelosi said. ‘Do not risk incurring the anger of the Chinese government because they are ruthless.’
“‘I know there is a temptation on the part of some to speak out while they are there; I respect that. But, I also worry about what the Chinese government might do to their reputations, to their families,’ she added.”
Pelosi’s comments have caused great debate among athletes as they often have far more impact if they speak out against injustice than politicians.

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday that the United States had a moral duty to condemn China's rights abuses, but urged U.S. athletes not to risk angering the "ruthless" Chinese government, a day before the opening of the Beijing Olympics.
