(RightIsRight.co) – A record number of Americans say that they are “suffering,” according to the results from a new public opinion poll conducted after Democrat President Joe Biden had been in the White House for 19 months.
Almost 6% of all American adults characterized themselves as suffering – the highest number since pollster Gallup began to record the state in 2008, the year that saw the onset of the Global Financial Crisis.
Its latest public opinion poll on the topic surveyed a total of 3,649 adults from across the United States. The respondents were polled between July 26 and August 2, Fox News reported.
The previous “suffering” record in the US was also set on Biden’s watch – it was recorded back in April 2022, when 4.8% of US adults described themselves as suffering.
The Gallup poll in question asks respondents to categorize their lifestyle by picking one out of three categories”: “suffering,” “struggling,” or “thriving.”
Those polled need to assess their current and future lives using a scale from 0 to 10, of which 10 stands for “ideal.”
Responses of 4 or lower as categorized as “suffering,” 5 or 6 are deemed “struggling,” while the thriving category is reserved for respondents who pick 7 or higher for their current lives or 8 or higher for their future lives.
Presently, the percentage of Americans who say they are “thriving” stands at 51%, an average rate.
According to the results from the same poll over the past 15 years, America had the highest number of “thriving” citizens back in June 2021, at 59%.
The all-time lows of 46% “thriving” Americans were recorded twice – once in November 2008, after the start of the Great Recession, and again in April 2022, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and the related lockdowns.
The poll results showing that a record number of Americans are “suffering” comes against the backdrop of lingering sky-high inflation and gas prices.
That remains the case even as the former declined slightly in July compared with June – from 9.1% year-on-year to 8.5% year-on-year, and even as the latter has been sliding slowly for several weeks now.
According to voters’ accounts, inflation and the state of the American economy remain the top issues on their minds for the 2022 midterm elections in November.
President Joe Biden’s approval rating is estimated at 40%, an increase of 4 points compared with May of this year.
