(RightIsRight.co) – While the City of Chicago is working around the clock to set up miles of security fencing, Democrats are scared for their safety as the Democrat National Convention (DNC) starts today.

Fencing is being built around the United Center and McCormick Place, along Michigan Avenue, known as the “Magnificent Mile,” and around areas designated for protests.
Road closures are already in effect, essentially cutting off traffic in the area.
In addition, these security zones were put in place on Friday to give workers enough time to finish setting up the fencing and concrete barriers needed for the convention’s start on Monday.
Social media is buzzing with photos and videos of the barriers being installed to keep the convention area secure.
Meanwhile, many downtown businesses have hired board-up services to protect their stores, remembering the damage during the 2020 riots that devastated so many retail locations in Chicago.
The security measures have been in the works for a long time. According to CNN, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) has reportedly been training for a year with federal, state, and local agencies to ensure safety during the convention.
CPD Superintendent Larry Snelling has also warned protesters that the First Amendment does not cover “criminal acts.”
Snelling said to CNN, “There is a distinct difference between the riot and a peaceful protest, or people who are simply actually exercising their First Amendment rights.”
He continued, “The First Amendment for that [sic] actions does not include rioting, it doesn’t include criminal acts … It doesn’t include breaking the law. It doesn’t include violence, vandalism, those things that we are not going to tolerate in our city.”
Snelling underscored that if people show up there to exercise their First Amendment rights and do so peacefully, they will protect their rights to do so.
Snelling also stated, “The minute that starts, we have to put an end to it. When people become comfortable committing acts of violence and vandalism, that’s when it turns into a riot.”
