Leftist mainstream media network CNN is “imploding” as its viewership has collapsed, and its management has announced upcoming layoffs, according to a report.
CNN’s viewership has been declining steadily for months, and the network has been rocked by a sex scandal involving its former president, Jeff Zucker, and a subordinate.
Earlier this week, the network’s new chief, Chris Licht, announced upcoming layoffs, with more than 1,000 staff to be made redundant by Warner Bros. Discovery before the end of the year.
“CNN, a far-left propaganda outlet that denies election results and encourages violence in predominantly black neighborhoods, will be hit with massive layoffs before the end of the year,” Breitbart commentator John Nolte wrote in an op-ed.
Nolte quotes part of the statement by Licht, whom he describes as “the left-wing extremist behind Stephen Colbert’s failing late-night show.”
“[CNN will undergo] noticeable change. … That, by definition, is unsettling. These changes will not be easy because they will affect people, budgets, and projects,” Licht said in his address.
Nolte sarcastically wondered “why that is” before he delved into how CNN’s viewership has collapsed tremendously in recent months, down to “humiliating ratings.”
He pointed out that last week, CNN attracted an average of just 512,000 primetime viewers and even fewer day viewers – 458,000 viewers.
At the same time, conservative outlet Fox News got an average of 2.3 million primetime viewers. Another leftist TV network, MSNBC, had 1.1 million viewers.
Fox News’ day viewers averaged 1.48 million, while MSNBC’s stood at 719,000.
In the 25-to-54 demographic, CNN had only 109,000 primetime viewers, compared with 293,000 for Fox News and 111,000 for MSNBC.
In the same demographic, CNN had only 92,000-day viewers, with MSNBC doing even worse at 81,000, while Fox News got 203,000.
Nolte commented on the above figures by pointing out how the mainstream media claim that “only old people” watch Fox News, and “after those old racists died, MSNBC and CNN would take first place?”
The Breitbart author then emphasized that the biggest mistake of CNN’s new boss, Chris Licht, has been to “make election-denier Jake Tapper the face of The New CNN.”
“Tapper is dying — dying — in his new primetime slot,” Nolte declared.
He noted that CNN’s profit was about to decline below $1 billion this year, a first since 2016, as more and more Americans are abandoning traditional pay TV for streaming services. Hence the network’s upcoming massive layoffs.
“CNN is a failing enterprise staffed with smug, dishonest, unlikeable, bigoted, hate-filled anchors. You can’t fix that without a five-alarm enema. But Licht would rather lose money than hire likable people who might accidentally tell the truth now and again,” Nolte commented.
“Watching CNN implode has been one of the great joys of my professional life. CNN will always be around. But CNN no longer matters. CNN is a fart in a hurricane,” the conservative commentator concluded.
