Rep. Ilhan Omar Attacks Jews

US Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN)

( – Nebraska Republican US Representative Don Bacon recently introduced a resolution to censure US Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) following her remarks at Columbia University, where she attacked Jewish Americans are “pro-genocide.”

Bacon criticized the comments as unacceptable, emphasizing, “It’s unacceptable to say, calling Jewish Americans that are Americans, calling them pro-genocide. It’s just unacceptable. So, I want to take a bold stand.”

During her visit to the anti-Israel encampment at Columbia University, Omar defended her position, stating:

“I think it is really unfortunate that people don’t care about the fact that all Jewish kids should be kept safe, and that we should not have to tolerate antisemitism or bigotry for all Jewish students, whether they are pro-genocide or anti-genocide.”

Omar, a well-known critic of Israel in Congress and a vocal opponent of U.S. support for Israel’s actions against Hamas, faced another setback last month when Congress passed a bipartisan foreign aid package that included substantial aid for Israel, alongside humanitarian assistance for Gaza.

Earlier this Congress, House Republicans ousted Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee due to her previous comments, which were perceived as antisemitic and suggested Jewish donors influenced politicians.

In Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District, former Minneapolis city councilman Don Samuels is mounting a strong primary challenge against Omar. Samuels, who narrowly lost to Omar in a previous Democratic primary, commented,

“Once again, we’re in an unfortunate and familiar cycle. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar says something inflammatory and offensive.”

“Republicans, with repeat offenders in their ranks, weaponize it. Rinse and repeat. Our democracy offers the best way to address the harm done by these extremists. It’s not censure, it’s defeat at the ballot box,” he added.

The controversy extends to Omar’s family as well, with her daughter Isra Hirsi, a student at Barnard College, recently arrested and suspended for her participation in the Columbia anti-Israel encampment.

Further complicating the situation, Khymani James, a lead student organizer at Columbia, was banned from campus after a video surfaced in which he suggested that Zionists should be killed.
