(RightIsRight.co) – Although Taylor Swift has not yet revealed which candidate she plans to endorse, her “Swifties” are already raising campaign money for the Democrat nominee Kamala Harris.
During a virtual rally featuring Carole King and Senators Elizabeth Warren and Kirsten Gillibrand, the coalition raised over $138,000 for Harris.
While the Swifties for Kamala Coalition officially kicked off this week, Swift herself is not connected to the group and did not participate in the Zoom event.
However, the group has gathered a massive social media following, gaining about 250 million followers since Joe Biden stepped out of the race in late July and threw his support behind Harris.
Carole King was introduced as the “original cat lady,” and she started her speech by calling Swift her “musical and songwriting granddaughter.” Swift inducted King into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021, performing “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” and calling King “the greatest songwriter of all time.”
“I’m excited about Kamala because so many people are excited about Kamala,” King said after rapping the chorus of Swift’s 2014 hit “Shake It Off.”
She added, “I have admired her, the idea that this happened, and the stars lined up, and Joe Biden did a really gracious, hard thing to do, and I’m so proud of him … But this is about you. This call is about you.”
King also shared some advice for volunteering, encouraging attendees to get involved in phone banking and door-knocking. “I’ve been a political activist for years. I’ve been a volunteer, I’ve been a door knocker, even as a famous person,” she said.
“I’m telling you all this because if any of you are thinking of volunteering to be door knockers or phone callers, but you’re a little nervous about what you might say, please believe me: there is nothing to lose and everything to gain,” King continued.
In addition, Swift has not weighed in on the 2024 election yet, though she did support the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020. Yet, the Swifties for Kamala Coalition is not waiting for her endorsement.
