(RightIsRight.co) – Former President Donald Trump slammed evangelical Christian leaders for failing to endorse his 2024 presidential candidacy after he announced it more than two months ago.
Trump told the Water Cooler podcast their evangelical allies’ failure to support his third White House bid was a “sign of disloyalty.”
Trump’s comments came when the podcast host, the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody, asked him explicitly what he thought of the evangelical leaders’ reluctance to endorse his new White House candidacy.
“I don’t really care. It’s a sign of disloyalty,” the former president declared, as cited by Fox News.
“There’s great disloyalty in the world of politics, and that’s a sign of disloyalty because nobody … has ever done more for ‘right to life’ than Donald Trump,” he added.
Trump emphasized that his presidency changed the makeup of the US Supreme Court, which in June 2022 overturned the 1973 pro-abortion Roe v. Wade ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
“I put three Supreme Court justices who all voted, and they got something they’ve been fighting for 64 years or many, many years,” Trump said.
“And nobody thought they could win it. They won — Roe v. Wade — they won. They finally won,” he added.
He criticized those in the evangelical community and the broader pro-life movement who had not only abstained from endorsing his presidential bid but have also failed to provide significant support for the GOP in the 2022 midterm elections.
Trump stated those groups did not “do what they could have done” in the November midterms, a decisive moment when the Republican Party was hoping to retake both chambers of the US Congress.
As the much-forecasted “red wave” in the 2022 election didn’t materialize, the GOP ended up retaking only the House of Representatives, and only by a slim majority of 222-213.
“I was a little disappointed because I thought they could have fought much harder during the election, during the 2022 election,” Trump declared.
“Because, you know, they won, and a lot of them didn’t fight or weren’t really around to fight. And it did energize the Democrats. But a lot of the people who wanted and fought for years to get it… they weren’t there protesting and doing what they could have done,” he elaborated.
“But with all of that being said, there’s nobody who has done more for the movement than I have, and that includes the movement of evangelicals and Christians and the movement very much of ‘right to life,’” Trump concluded.
