On Tuesday (May 23) afternoon, former President Donald Trump expressed feeling entitled to damages following the deal Dominion Voting Systems struck with Fox News.
In April, Dominion and Fox agreed to settle a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit the former had brought against the matter.
The lawsuit is one of many legal submissions that center on the comments about Fox News hosts questioning the legitimacy of the 2020 election. The lawsuit began when the privately held voting equipment company challenged Fox News’ claims that Dominion aided in a conspiracy to steal the 2020 election.
The companies settled for $787.5 million.
Now, Trump is expressing his belief that it is only fair that he also receives compensation for the pain he suffered through the media.
“Dominion gets almost a Billion Dollars,” he wrote on Truth Social, querying how “after years of Fake News, Hoaxes, Scams and Investigations,” he was “entitled to NOTHING?”
“Is that really the way it’s supposed to work?” Trump asked before declaring, “I don’t think so!”
The former President’s Truth Social post follows his media company filing a lawsuit on Saturday (May 20) against The Washington Post.
Experts have insisted the lawsuit against WaPo “doesn’t make any sense.”
Late on Saturday, the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company of Trump’s Truth Social platform, is seeking $3.78 billion in damages from WaPo, alleging it poses an “existential threat” to the company after carrying out a “years-long crusade” against the company and Trump.
But Trump’s media conglomerate winning the case is unlikely, according to Camron Dowlatshahi, a Los Angeles-based employment and defamation attorney.
According to Dowlatshahi, Trump’s Media Group isn’t worth $1 billion, which makes the company’s claim of $3.78 billion in damages nearly impossible to substantiate as it would require that they prove “the business is worthless based on certain statements” made in a May 13 article.
