(RightIsRight.co) – Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA) spoke out following a tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, which left four people dead and nine injured.

“Our hearts are with the victims and loved ones of those affected by the tragic event in Winder, GA,” Trump said. “These cherished children were taken from us far too soon by a sick and deranged monster.”

Similarly, Governor Kemp released a statement expressing his deep sorrow, saying he and his family were “heartbroken” by the news.

“This is a day every parent dreads, and Georgians everywhere will hug their children tighter this evening because of this painful event,” he stated.

“We continue to work closely with local, state, and federal partners to make any and all resources available to help this community on this incredibly difficult day and in the days to come,” Kemp continued.

Earlier in the day, the school had received a threatening phone call claiming it would be the first target in a series of shootings aimed at five different schools. State law enforcement officials confirmed that no other schools were targeted.

Authorities have arrested a 14-year-old male suspect, who is expected to be charged with murder and tried as an adult.

Additionally, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey said that school resource officers confronted the shooter, leading him to surrender immediately and be taken into custody.

In response to the shooting, Joe Biden called for stricter gun control laws, including a ban on semi-automatic firearms and certain firearm magazines.

Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris also addressed the incident but did not specify any actions.

“Today, Doug and I are mourning the deaths of those whose lives were cut short by gun violence at Apalachee High School in Georgia,” Harris wrote on X.

“Our hearts are with the students, teachers, and families impacted by this shooting, and we are grateful to the first responders and law enforcement on the scene,” she added.

“This is a senseless tragedy — and it does not have to be this way. We must end the epidemic of gun violence in our country once and for all,” Harris concluded.
