(RightIsRight.co) – In a major effort to dramatically downsize the federal workforce, President Trump’s administration is cutting 80,000 Department of Veterans Affairs positions to streamline veteran services and return to what it believes were more efficient 2019 staffing levels.

This move, led by VA Secretary Doug Collins and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), aims to eliminate bureaucratic waste while maintaining critical care for America’s heroes.
The plan will trim the VA workforce from over 482,000 to roughly 400,000 employees, targeting non-essential positions that have ballooned during the Biden administration.
Despite Democrats’ alarmist claims, Secretary Collins has firmly assured veterans that these cuts will not affect healthcare or benefits delivery.
“This administration is finally going to give the veterans what they want. President Trump has a mandate for generational change in Washington and that’s exactly what we’re going to deliver at the VA,” Secretary Collins stated.
The cuts align perfectly with President Trump’s promise to drain the swamp and eliminate government waste.
An internal memo outlined how the reorganization will “resize and tailor the workforce” to the VA’s mission, targeting bureaucratic bloat while preserving the 300,000 positions labeled “mission critical.”
At the same time, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly reinforced the administration’s commitment to veterans, stating Trump “refuses to accept the VA bureaucracy and bloat that has hindered veterans’ ability to receive timely and quality care.”
Predictably, Democrats are fearmongering about the reductions. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) has wildly claimed the Trump administration “has launched an all-out assault” on veterans.
This desperate characterization ignores the fact that the VA functioned effectively in 2019 with fewer employees.
Left-leaning critics also ignore that the VA reached its highest-ever service levels last year with over 9 million enrollees and 127.5 million healthcare appointments, showing there is clearly room for efficiency improvements without sacrificing care quality.
“Things need to change,” Collins stated emphatically, refusing to back down from the necessary reforms.
He added, “But what most of them are really saying is, ‘Let’s just keep doing the same thing that the V.A. has always done.'”
Former VA Inspector General Michael Missal, who was dismissed alongside other Obama-era holdovers, predictably criticized the cuts.
“What’s going to happen is VA’s not going to perform as well for veterans, and veterans are going to get harmed,” Missal claimed.
What Missal and other critics conveniently disregard is that over 25% of current VA employees are veterans themselves, meaning these patriots understand firsthand what their fellow servicemembers need.
The reorganization is set to begin in August, and some reductions could occur through early retirement or severance payments.
Bloated federal agencies have wasted taxpayer dollars while failing to deliver results for too long.
President Trump’s approach at the VA demonstrates his commitment to keeping his promises to both veterans and taxpayers by ensuring the government works efficiently for those who served the country.
